The Complete Journey

From application to arrival in Canada, we support you every step of the way

Step 1: Application & Selection

Submit your application with your educational background, motivation, and career goals. Our team reviews applications and conducts interviews to ensure alignment with program requirements and values.

Requirements:
  • Health sciences, social work, or related degree/diploma
  • Strong English proficiency
  • Passion for developmental services

Step 2: Comprehensive Training (4 Months)

Complete intensive training through the Kenya Institute of Social Work & Community Development (KISWCD). Learn person-centered approaches, counseling skills, behavioral support techniques, and Canadian workplace standards.

Training Modules:

  • Rights & Responsibilities (7.5 hours)
  • Developmental Services (10.5 hours)
  • Counseling Skills (6 hours)
  • Life Skills & Communication (9 hours)
  • Group Work & Case Studies (12 hours)

Step 3: Practical Internship (2 Months)

Gain hands-on experience through a supervised internship in Kenya. Apply your training in real-world settings while building confidence and practical skills under the guidance of experienced mentors.

What You’ll Do:

  • Work with individuals with developmental disabilities
  • Practice person-centered care approaches
  • Develop individualized support plans
  • Receive mentorship and feedback

Step 4: Employer Matching

Based on your skills, preferences, and career goals, we match you with vetted Canadian employers in the developmental services sector. Participate in interviews and find the right fit for your professional journey.

Step 5: Immigration & Work Permit

We guide you through the entire immigration process, ensuring all documentation is complete and accurate. Receive your 2-year work permit and prepare for your journey to Canada with pre-departure orientation.

  • Document preparation and submission
  • Pre-departure orientation
  • Travel arrangements support

Step 6: Settlement & Ongoing Support

Arrive in Canada with confidence. Receive support with initial accommodation, workplace integration, and cultural adjustment. Join a community of Athari alumni and receive ongoing mentorship throughout your first year.
